It’s a table, It’s a desk, It’s a door!

30 Jan

I found this really cool recycled desk made by Manoteca. It’s handmade and consist of a desk, 3 recycled rawhide pockets and a wood drawer.

“Manoteca is a little house in a park, a lab where old and abandoned things are hosted among with recycled materials, reinvented and reassembled.”

If closed, It can function as a table. If open, It’s a desk with holders. Reinventing furniture so it finds a new function is a great idea! For more reinvented furnitures look at Manoteca‘s homepage!

A little collection of furniture

28 Jan

I found a lot of nice pieces online while I was surfing just the other day. I have different feelings about them all (the sofa I love, the chair’s are more interesting), but that’s why I decided to share them with you!

This first piece is a couch. To be more precise it’s the Hudson Bay Sofa from Sit and Read – a Brooklyn based creative agency, gallery and retail space . It consist of a teak frame designed by Kofod-Larsen, really simple but wonderful cushions upholstered in Hudson Bay blankets. Don’t you just love the pattern?!Screen Shot 2012-10-15 at 15.28.38

The second piece is a Merrow Associates Sideboard by love vintage furniture. (link below)

The next piece I found was this really cool armchair. I an’t stop looking at the arm rsts. It was designed in the 1950s Illum Wikkelsø for N. Eilersen. The curves of the chair is just captivating whichever angle you choose to look at them.  Wikkelsø’s philosophy was “that furniture should embrace the body smoothly and tenderly, and should be a delight to the eye but also be solid and durable”.PageImage-497078-2456266-220O8937

I found a lot of other stuff, and I also have more pictures of what is featured in this little slide show:

Light fixtures, a weakness of mine!

19 Jan

If you have been following my blog for a while now, you most likely know that I love lamps. It´s my weakness. So when I came across some of the lamps made by APPARATUS how can I not write about them!?! I must say that these lamps are truly amazing, I love every detail!

01_copy

The lamps are made by APPARATUS, they make collections of light fixtures and consist of designer Gabriel Hendifar and partner Jeremy Anderson.

“Aged brass, painted glass, and found objects are assembled by hand to create eclectic, utilitarian fixtures. The result is a warm glow that is at once time-worn and thoroughly modern.

The collection includes one-of-a-kind fixtures constructed from salvaged components as well as pieces made entirely from contemporary materials. “

A white study place..

18 Jan

So these days I´m studying for my anatomy finals, unfortunately my study place is not the most appealing. I´m currently occupying the kitchen table and the tiny desk we have in our living room. If you have followed my for a while you know that I have a preference for clean, white and neutral decorating often with a spark of colour. Image

I found this fresh looking workplace at a swedish blog: Hitta Hem.  It´s put together by two swedish interior decorators Marie Ramse and Pella Hedeby. Image

On their blog they have a list of where to buy the furniture and you can also ask them about decorating tips 🙂

Think I´m going to buy that Ikea desk in the near future. Cant stop drooling over it!

A house in Drammen..

17 Jan

It´s not everyday a house in my hometown is featured in the New York Times. I´m from a small town called Drammen. My town is situated about 30 min away from the capital in Norway, Oslo.  The minimalistic house is for sale and it´s priced at $ 1.6 million.

I´m not 100% in love with the furniture, but I do love the house!

Christians Louboutin´s egyptian retreat!

19 Jul

A while back I read in Elle Décor about Christian Louboutin´s holiday retreat in Egypt. The place made an impression on me. I think it was the undone, unfurnitured feeling the place has. I had this weird craving for wanting to furniture the place, but I think thats the charm. That it´s that undone or minimalistic..

“Once a craftsman’s workshop, the building is made of earthen bricks, employing a technique that has been used in Egypt for thousands of years. Louboutin added an additional floor and a rooftop belvedere with views of the surrounding desert. Construction wasn’t easy: In this area, temperatures can fluctuate rapidly, and building materials are often scarce. “A thousand times I thought I was going out of my mind,” he jokes.”

École Maternelle Pajol- The rainbow inspired preschool

14 Jul

“A 2009 study at the University of Essex showed that memory, mental agility, reaction times and even physical  strength improved when exposed to sunflowers, rainbows and other what-nots…”

Now a days, especially since it´s summer I´m constantly trying to wear colors. One of the reasons is that I almost instantly  feel so much better when I wear colors. My mood shifts to a much brighter one, and I get a smile on my face!

The french authorities brought in the architectural firm:  Palatre & Leclere Architectes to transform this rather plain and boring preschool (a typical pre-school) into something different. I love this idea! It looks like a rainbow washed thru it!

They definitely needed guts to transform a school into this, but I definitely think it paid off! École Maternelle Pajol is now an unique preschool in Paris, and I hope that it will not be the only one!
